Rebel Girl
03:51
|
|
||
The Empire’s flags are all around
She says it easier to keep her head down
She looks at you strange when you say “There’s hope”
That’s how rebellions work, don’t you know?
Rebel Girl, Rebel Girl
Rebel Girl do they know you?
It’s going to be your time for breaking through
She’s waiting for someone to stand by her side
We all have a world where we want to hide
In the desert sun that you made home
And all your life you felt so alone
Rebel Girl, Rebel Girl
Rebel Girl do they know you?
It’s going to be your time
For breaking through

Desert Planet
03:40
|
|
||
Your footprints on the desert plain
Have blown away and only you remain
I walk with you in the shifting sand
We’re nowhere near where we began
We’re isolated on the barren coast
The desolation here is stark
There’s nothing to see but who we are
Surrounded by nothing but the dark
The emptiness, just let it come
Like a desert planet around a sun
Hits you with a violent wind
The light comes when we let darkness in
Jonah I heard what you want me to do
But I just can’t get far enough from you
If there’s a chance we’ll never come back
I don’t think I’m capable of that
We walk alone on the barren coast
Into the cave of who we are
There’s nowhere to go but into your soul
Surrounded by nothing but the dark
The emptiness, just let it come
Like a desert planet around a sun
Hits you with a violent wind
Light comes when we let darkness in

No Man's Land
03:52
|
|
||
Under stars, on the road
There’s no cars, just the shore
Wail of wind, crack of stone
As the moonlight glows, where is home?
Falling clouds, rising smoke
Do you remember this land before it broke?
Past a town they built for civility
There was a mother who left her child and family
Canonized by preying eyes
Another violence that’s been disguised by a lie
Who am I? I’m one to talk
I am always driving farther than could walk
Falling clouds, rising smoke
Do you remember this land before it choked?
Falling clouds, rising smoke
Do you remember this land before it broke?

Mileage
03:27
|
|
||
I’ve got my hands on the wheel
And my heart on you
I was reading in the news, Theresa
She said for her last fifty years
She “Couldn’t feel God”
Well I’m more a devil than a saint
But I can love
I’m getting mileage out of you
I’m turning on the express route
I’ve got the rubber to the road
And I’m thinking that my soul doesn’t want to go
But I’ve got to let go
Watching the trees as they go by
Do they make you want to try?
They’re reaching heaven, seeing hell on 69
Love, death and fear and fire and smoke
But still they grow
I’m here and you are over there
Just want to let you know
I’m getting mileage out of you
I’m turning on the express route
I’ve got the rubber to the road
And I’m thinking that my soul doesn’t want to go
But I’ve got to let go
Moon river in your eyes, Moon River in your skies
Moon river in your eyes, Moon River in your sky
I’m getting mileage out of you
I’m turning on the express route
I’ve got the rubber to the road
And I’m thinking that my soul doesn’t want to go
But I’ve got to let go

October 1st

You always thought something
Was on the horizon
Maybe it was the sun in your eyes in your eyes
If I say that “I can’t go”
Is there something that you might know?
Everything is not just a dream, a dream
I was born to sing
From the ground to the sky
I was born to sing to shine like the sun
When I’m gone I’ll leave my voice
I’m sitting here at daybreak
Under the morning stars
The light is over powering my soul, my soul
Well let’s just go then
If you want me to bring back
Something that could lead us to the fire
I was born to sing
From the ground to the sky
I was born to sing to shine like the sun
When I’m gone I’ll leave my voice
It’s something you can’t control
Everything you wanted to hold
It’s more than you thought that you’d be this time
I was born to sing
From the ground to the sky
I was born to sing to shine like the sun
When I’m gone I’ll leave my voice

Viljo and Elsa
04:29
|
|
||
Viljo left home on a warm day in May
To cross the Atlantic on a ship called Montcalm
He got up real early and left right away
For a far and new country to miss the coming storm
The S.S. was rising with eyes on The North
Karelia would burn like red from The East
The Winter War would consume all his friends
And Viljo was leaving to start his great dream
Elsa arrived on the grand Dottingholm
On December 19, 1926
Viljo and Elsa met in Toronto
The meeting place of treaties and lies
They were butler and cook for a kind, rich family
In the new land in Dale of The Rose
It’s 1939 and from time to time
The newspapers report from the war back home
Viljo would clip them and store them in a drawer
And my Father has saved them all of his life
Now I’m looking at a picture of four Finnish women
Sent to The Front to bring aid and supplies
I stole that last line from the picture’s caption
But I can’t imagine how it was in the action
So I’ll just write this song to always remember
That Viljo and Elsa gave us something better
Through their sons William and Osmo
Grandkids Trevor, Eldon, Esko and Brett
Jason, myself and the youngest Chris
It’s certainly the best thing that I have known yet
Now I’m walking down on Widmer Street
Where Viljo started the city’s first Sauna
Now it’s shadowed by a cinematic castle
And I’m writing this story to show on that screen

You’re on your own
But you’re not alone
You may be at home
But you still feel alone
It’s a new day in your heart
The sky is grey and even you’re
Feeling just like the sky
But you’ve always liked the sky
Don’t you know you’re never going to let it go
You know you’re right I’m never going to let it go
Walk the park with a notebook
Eye a bench and take a look
Point a finger at a blank page
Open up to let it in
It’s a new day in your heart
The sky is grey and even you’re
Feeling just like the sky
But you’ve always liked the sky
Don’t you know you’re never going to let it go
You know you’re right I’m never going to let it go
Don’t know you’ve really got to let it go
I don’t know I’m never going to let it go
We’re here now

Last Moment
05:58
|
|
||
I stormed out with a shout
Said “I hate you”, said “I hate you”
Oh what did I do, what did I do?
Oh my God what would happen
If that was our last moment?
I prayed to God, I prayed to God
“Please give a chance, please give me a chance
To make amends, to make amends”
Oh my God what would happen
If that was our last moment?
Oh I’ve tried to be kind
But I’ve failed so many times
Oh my God what would happen
If that was our last moment?
So listen up son, listen up girl
You’ve got to live each moment
Live each moment
Like it’s your last on Earth
Like it’s your last on Earth
Oh my God what would happen
If that was our last moment?
Oh my God what would happen
If that was our last moment?
Oh my God what would happen
If that was our last moment?

Way back when before it began
You gave us something that would never end
You painted us a beautiful lie
Everything we’d need to get by
I couldn’t wait to tell all my friends
A new sound that was heaven sent
Got everyone tickets, for the final show
You said “you’ll go too, like everyone, you know”
I wish I could help you
I wish I could know you
Give you some courage too
Well I wish I could help you
Turning flesh and blood into sound
Vibrations are rising up from the ground
In my eyes you’re a blaze
You sing to alight the darkest of days
Our particles buzz with memories
Of victory and atrocities
But now we’re armed with grace and love
You said, “That’s who we are, who would have thought?”
Well I wish I could help you
I wish I could know you
Give you some courage too
Well I wish I could help you
I know I can get through
I just want to see true
And find some courage too
I know that I can walk through
